Limited Video Game Collector’s Editions Announced!
The newest video game releases and collector edition announcements are just around with corner with E3 in less than a couple of months away. However, there has been several huge announcements recently. This month’s CE announcements include Insomniac’s highly anticipated Spider-Man game and two extremely popular MMORPGs: The Elder Scrolls Online – Summerset and World of Warcraft – Battle for Azeroth.

It has been some time since Insomniac Games has released a new AAA title. The company is most known for their Ratchet and Clank series: which currently spans 11 games. In 2016, Insomniac released their newest entry in the Ratchet and Clank series as well as three Oculus RIft VR games. As 2018 heads into full swing, Insomniac is releasing the first console Spider-Man game since the hero’s IP license with Activision expired in 2014.
Spider-Man’s previous console title was based on The Amazing Spider-Man 2 film (2014); however, the webbed hero hasn’t received an original storyline since 2011’s Spider-Man: Edge of Time. Insomniac’s Spider-Man is not based on the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s current interpretation of the character. Instead, they are telling a story with a seasoned and experienced Peter Parker. Between Insomniac’s recent comeback, a drastically different Peter Parker from recent movies, and promising gameplay, Spider-Man has been on many people’s radars since its announcement at E3 2016.
The Spider-Man Collector’s Edition includes the Digital Deluxe edition of the game. This version comes with the main game as well as DLC content. Much of the DLC has not been announced, but three new story chapters titled “Spider-Man: The City Never Sleeps” are confirmed. The City Never Sleeps includes new missions, suits, and characters. The Digital Deluxe edition is available separately for $80.00 USD.
Pre-Order bonuses, for both the Digital Deluxe and Collector’s editions, include a Spider-Man pin, the Spidey Suit pack, and a Spider-Drone gadget (in-game). The Spidey Suit pack includes three outfits for the hero; however, the only one announced so far is the Spider-Punk Suit. The remaining two skins of the pack are set to be announced before July. The last of the pre-order content includes a Spider-Man PSN avatar, a PS4 theme, and 5 extra skill points (used to advance Spider-Man’s abilities in-game).

Last but not least, the Collector’s Edition exclusives include a Spider-Man Statue, custom steelbook, mini artbook, and a white spider sticker. The design and dimensions of the Spider-Man Statue are set to be revealed this summer. The steelbook and sticker feature the same design: Spider-Man’s new white spider logo on a red background. It appears the Collector’s Edition’s box also sports this same design. The artbook, titled “Spider-Man: The Art of the Game”, displays a dynamic Spider-Man in combat with a horde of henchmen. No details were provided on the size of the mini-artbook, but based on the depiction in the Collector’s Edition overview, the artbook appears to be a similar size to the steelbook game case.
Marvel’s Spider-Man Collector’s Edition will launch on September 7th, 2018 for $150.00 USD.
The Elder Scrolls Online: Summerset Collector’s Edition
The newest expansion in the Elder Scrolls Online brings a drastically different environment to the game. The previous expansion, Morrowind, brought players to a familiar stomping ground, Vvardenfell. But over a year has passed since Morrowind and players are going to need to prepare for a huge change in scenery.
In an conversation with Matt Kim from USGamer, Elder Scrolls Online Creative Director, Rich Lambert, describes Summerset as “traditional high-elf fantasy” that “isn’t your typical Elder Scrolls”. The expansion’s story follows the aftermath of the High Elves’ Queen Ayrenn opening the Summerset Isles for foreigners. Between the in-game debut of Psijic Order (referenced in previous Elder Scrolls’ lore) and the backdrop of elven politics, Elder Scrolls fans are in for a riveting adventure.
Pre-orders for any edition of the game include the Queen’s Bounty Pack. This pack contains the Court of Bedlam costume, Pocket Salamander pet, three treasure maps, a Psijic Vault Crown crate, and two experience scrolls. The Court of Bedlam costume is available for all classes and is described as “an exclusive costume with a sinister style”. Psijic-themed mounts, pets, costumes, and more can be obtained from the Psijic Vault Crown Crate. Outside of the Queen’s Pack, all pre-orders will include the Nightmare Senche Mount.
For a limited time, digital pre-purchases will receive full access to the Morrowind chapter. This chapter includes the zone of Vvardenfell, the Warden class, the Halls of Fabrication trial, and a unique story revolving around restoring the lost power of the demi-god Vivec.
The Collector’s Edition’s digital content contains the Bloodshadow Wraith Steed mount, the Divine Prosecution Outfit Style, a Fledging Gryphon pet, a Psijic Scrying Talisman (for simulating Psijic Order mages’ farseeing spells), and the House of Reveries Emote Pack.
Moving on to the physical items of the Collector’s Edition, the main centerpiece is a 12″ statue of the Daedric Prince Mephala. The statue has an impressive metallic finish, which compliments the silver steelbook. The last items included in the Collector’s Edition are a map of Summerset and Razum-dar’s Journal. The journal report details Razum-dar’s investigation of Summerset to Queen Aryenn.
The Elder Scrolls Online: Summerset Collector’s Edition releases for $89.99 USD on May 21st, 2018 for PC/Mac. The game launches for PS4 and Xbox One on June 5th, 2018.
World of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth
Our last entry today is another classic MMMORPG: World of Warcraft. The 7th expansion, Battle for Azeroth, dives deep into the conflict between the Horde and the Alliance. Battle for Azeroth brings new character races, dungeons, raids, an upgraded level cap, and a new battle missions called Warfronts.
First up is Battle for Azeroth’s Digital Deluxe edition. This edition provides two in-game bonuses: a Baby Tortollan pet and one of two new mounts. The mount is determined by which side you fight for. Fighting for the Alliance grants you the Seabraid Stallion mount while choosing the Horde gives you the Gilded Ravasaur mount.
The other collectibles in the Digital Deluxe edition are provided for Blizzard’s other IPs. These include Horde and Alliance sprays in Starcraft II, the “Azeroth is Burning” card back for Hearthstone, and the new Primal Flamesaber mount in Heroes of the Storm (the mount comes in three color variations: green, white, and toast). Lastly, the Overwatch content: Kul Tiran and Zandalari player icons; Anduin, Jaina, Sylvanas, and Saurfang sprays; emotes for Tracer; and Horde and Alliance themed voice lines for Torbjorn.
Of course, the main Collector’s Edition contains all the content from the Digital Deluxe edition. Additionally, it contains the digital soundtrack, the Mark of Allegiance, and a double-sided story book. The Mark of Allegiance is a hefty double-sided medallion with the Horde and Alliance insignias engraved on either side. The hardback storybook titled “Elegy & A Good War” contains two novellas depicting the Burning of Teldrassil. Elegy, written by Christie Golden, depicts the Alliance’s point of view while A Good War, by Robert Brooks, tells the tale from the Horde’s perspective.
World of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth will be released on August 14th, 2018. The Digital Deluxe edition is priced at $69.99 USD while the Collector’s Edition costs $99.99 USD.
