Newest Video Game Collector’s Editions – January 2018: Monster Hunter: World, Dragon Ball FighterZ, and Dissidia Final Fantasy NT

The official 32-page art book, titled “Monster Designs”, details the anatomy, concept art, and final designs of several monsters, armor sets, and weapons featured in the game. The soundtrack features 10 tracks from the game but is only included as a digital download code. This collector’s edition also offers a “Deluxe Kit”; another digital code that unlocks a Samurai armor set, three bonus gestures for your character, two in-game sticker sets, the “Wyvern” face paint customization, and the “Topknot” hairstyle customization.

The impressive centerpiece of this collector’s edition is the Nergigante statue. This incredibly detailed figurine showcases one of the new monsters debuting in Monster Hunter: World. The Nergigante, a fearsome elder dragon covered in bony spikes and horns, is featured perched on a throne of firecell stones. The statue stands at ~125mm (4.9”) in height x 140mm (5.5”) in width x 170mm (6.7”) in length.

All of this content for the Monster Hunter: World Collector’s Edition comes packaged in a sleek collector’s box. It launched on January 26th in limited quantities for $149.99 USD.

Dragon Ball FighterZ CollectorZ Edition

Dragon Ball FighterZ is also an extremely popular hit right now; the new fighting game based on the popular anime/manga has attained both critical and fan acclaim. One distinct aspect of the game is the impressive 2D shader used on the models in the game, making the combat extremely reminiscent of the show’s art style. This same effect is accomplished in the CollectorZ Edition’s main centerpiece: a Super Saiyan Goku model figurine.

Goku’s statue stands at 7″ inches tall (17.78 cm) in ragged clothing while entering his Super Saiyan form. There is remarkable detail in everything from Goku’s stance, clothing, and expression. But the most noteworthy aspect of the figurine is the art style. Bandai Namco dubs this as “‘Manga Dimension’ Coloring” and it is an exceptionally brilliant choice. The extra step to liken the model to the game/manga’s art style adds a flair that just feels right. Making collector’s editions stand out and feel organic is tricky, but this is a prime example of how to integrate a collector’s item with the game’s IP cohesively. The rest of the CollectorZ edition includes a steelbook, 3 short art boards, and the Day One edition of the game itself all packaged in a “CollectorZ box”. The steelbook offers an alternative cover to keep your game disc, but the best part about it is the artwork. The front cover of the steelbook features three of Dragonball Z’s greatest villains: Frieza, Cell and Buu. On the other side, Super Saiyain protagonists Goku, Vegeta, and Gohan are all drawn in mid-combat. The steelbook creates a dynamic spread when viewed wide open.

The three art boards feature many characters from the series: Super Saiyan Blue Goku, Beerus, Super Saiyan Vegeta, Gohan, Andorid 17, and Android 18. The art of the boards move away from series’ usual style, featuring heavy outlines and ink splatter. Lastly, the Day One edition of the game includes two early unlockable characters and two exclusive lobby avatars as bonus content. Dragon Ball FighterZ also launched on January 26th, 2018 and the CollectorZ Edition retails at $139.99 USD.

Dissidia Final Fantasy NT Ultimate Collector’s Edition

The history of Final Fantasy’s fighting game is pretty complex: the original Dissidia was a fighting game for the PSP in 2009. While most Final Fantasy titles are unrelated, this game combined characters from all the main Final Fantasy games. A prequel, Dissidia 012 (which also included the original Dissidia), was released in 2011. The series took a break until 2015, when Dissidia Final Fantasy NT was released as an arcade game exclusively for Japan. But now, the arcade game has been ported worldwide to the Playstation 4, and with it, the Ultimate Collector’s edition.

The Ultimate Collector’s edition of this game is no joke. Compared to other collector editions on the market, this one has a long list of content to go through. The list includes the game, official soundtrack, steelbook, art book, season pass, three trading cards, and a figurine bust of the Warrior of Light.

The Warrior of Light is the first protagonist in the Final Fantasy series. He debuted in the original Final Fantasy in 1987 and helped launch one of the biggest franchises in video game history. The featured bust shows the Warrior in full armor from the waist up, bearing his sword upward in one hand. The statue stands at 21cm (8.27″) and has a sleek finish as well.

Because of how Dissidia blends multiple Final Fantasy games together, the bonus material in the collector’s edition also reflects many of the Final Fantasy titles. The soundtrack features 15 tracks from the game, which all are newly recorded versions of songs from previous Final Fantasy titles. The soundtrack is included as a physical disc. Next up is the art book. At 84 pages, the hard cover art book features characters, weapons, and environments from the game.

Rounding out the Ultimate Collector’s edition are three alternate art Final Fantasy trading cards the steel book, and the season pass content. On the cover of the steel book, the Warrior of Light is depicted in a similar pose as the accompanying bust.

The season pass content includes six currently unannounced playable characters, two color variations for each bonus character’s standard outfit, two additional weapons for them, and an additional short soundtrack comprised of five songs. Dissidia Final Fantasy NT Ultimate Collector’s edition was released on January 30th, 2018 for $189.99 USD.
